Sharon “Sue” Goddard Anderson

Aug. 14, 1951 - Aug. 19, 2013

Sharon “Sue” Goddard Anderson, 62, of Springfield, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She was born Aug. 14, 1951, the daughter of Fred and Doris Goddard.

Sue grew up in Harrisonville. After leaving Harrisonville, she lived throughout the U.S. She sang and traveled with a gospel group and some of her songs were recorded. She also worked full time as a CNA and eventually retired in Buffalo with her beloved husband, David Anderson, of 19 years.

Sue was best known for her sense of humor and gift of laughter, but her generous spirit and willing heart were often demonstrated throughout her life, as she was quick to give to those less fortunate and eager to help those in need.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David Anderson, and her father, Fred Goddard. She is survived by her mother, Doris Goddard, of Harrisonville; one brother, Richard Goddard, of Las Vegas, Nev.; one niece, Angela Bartlett, of Harrisonville; one nephew, Michael Goddard, of Harrisonville; and cousins.

Cecil L. Golden

Cecil L. Golden, 78, formerly of Lee’s Summit, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at his son’s home in Branson.

Cecil was a U.S. Army Veteran, proudly serving in the Infantry and Airborne divisions.

Funeral services were Aug. 30 at the funeral home with Reverend Roger Pickard, of Bible Church, officiating. Graveside military services and interment were in Floral Hills-East Cemetery, Lee’s Summit.

Robert Gordon “Bob” Mccoy

Robert Gordon “Bob” McCoy, 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at the home of his son, John McCoy, surrounded by his family.

The family received friends Sept. 3 at the funeral home. There was a Graveside Service and Interment Sept. 4 at Strasburg Cemetery with Pastor Todd MacLean officiating.

Shirley Lue Knox

April 7, 1933 - Aug. 30, 2013

Shirley Lue Knox, 80, of Harrisonville, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at her home in Harrisonville. Funeral services were Sept. 4 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice.

Shirley was born April 7, 1933, in Harrisonville, a daughter of Finis and Grace V. (Benjamin) Harper. She was a life-long Harrisonville resident and was a 1951 graduate of Harrisonville High School. She was united in marriage to Ralph Knox, May 27, 1951, in Harrisonville. She was active with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Optimist Club in Harrisonville. She had worked as a tax preparer and bookkeeper, and was a school bus driver for many years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and horses.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Finis Harper. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ralph Knox, of the home; a son, David Knox, and his wife, Cathy, Lee’s Summit; two daughters, Sondra McCrary, and husband, Glen, Belton, and Crystal Whisenhunt, and husband, Jason, Harrisonville; special angels, Debbie Robledo and Sheila Clevenger; a brother, Jack Harper, and wife, Jan, Harrisonville; and a sister, Sharon Wallace, Kansas City; five grandchildren, Tracy Dinges, Charla Hetherington, Ryan Gerster, Dawn Dussetschleger, and Jami Dussetschleger; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Dinges and Anne-Marie Hetherington; and many nieces and nephews.

Helmuth R. Schlenkrich

May 26, 1922 - Aug. 31, 2013

Helmuth R. Schlenkrich, 91, of Peculiar, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Sept. 4 at Cullen Funeral Home with visitation 10-11 a.m. Burial was in Peculiar Cemetery.

Helmuth lived a long, healthy and fulfilling life alongside his bride Susanne. He was born May 26, 1922, in Pirna, Germany, the son of Richard H. and Hulda C. Hofmann Schlenkrich.

Helmuth was preceded in death by his wife, Susanne; parents; two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his son, Manfred G. Schlenkrich (Donna), of Norfork, Ark.; two granddaughters, Christine Meuten (Steven), of Leawood, Kan., and Lisa Rasmussen, also of Leawood, Kan.; and four great-grandchildren, Jack and Henry Meuten and Kate and Jane Rasmussen.

Thomas E. Walter

March 29, 1941-Sept. 1, 2013

Thomas E. Walter, 72, of Peculiar, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Blue River Bible Church with visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Cullen Funeral Home.

He was born March 29, 1941, in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada, son of Chester E. and Melba C. (Davenport) Walter. He married Sharon E. White of Tulsa, Okla., on July 20, 1962. As a young boy, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and from then on he loved to tell people of his Lord. After 25 years with the Kansas City Police Department, he retired in 1991. Afterwards, he worked as Chief of Security for Raymore-Peculiar School Distract and Mid-America Nazarene University.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Sharon; sons, Timothy and wife Keineth, of Carl Junction, and Mark and wife Julia, of Farmington Hills, Mich.; and eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Katelyn, Brianna, Keri, Zachary, Brett, Allison and Jessica.

Tom will be remembered for his joyful spirit, being a stickler for details, his ability to teach the word of God, and for the lives he has touched. Tom loved the Lord with all his heart, so in lieu of flowers, please send a gift to a mission organization or missionary of your choice.

Rena Mae (Shewmaker) Hunt, 75, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, surrounded by her family.

Funeral Services for Rena will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Wallace Funeral Home with elder Butch Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
