9-6 Letter to the Editor

September 6, 2013

Dear Editor:

Thank you to Sandi Leonard who wrote about the harmful effects of balloon releases in the Aug. 20 issue of the Cass County Democrat Missourian.

I am particularly grateful to know of the site www.balloonsblow.org, so I refer people to that.

Leonard has it right. What goes up, must come down. When balloons come down, they are litter, dangerous to wildlife, a nuisance in upper branches of a homeowner’s tree, or tangled in power lines.

The people who release balloons to honor someone, or an event, have their hearts in the right place, but their actions only do harm.

Margaret McIntyre
