Midway picked up their second Western Missouri Conference victory of the season with a 39-0 victory over Archie Sept. 6 at Archie.

“It’s just another step up to get us higher in the conference,” Midway sophomore running back Luke Boyer said.

The game wasn’t perfect for either team though, as more than a dozen penalties were called during the contest.

Still, the Vikings started things out with a touchdown at the 8:37 minute mark in the first quarter on a 17-yard carry by Boyer. The next score came just two minutes later on a 19-yard carry by junior wide receiver Conor Hayes.

In the second quarter, Midway scored again, this time on a 20-yard carry by Boyer to put the Vikings up 20-0.

“We need to work on our blocking,” Boyer said. “We could do a little bit better job than we did, but we still did a pretty decent job. Running, we did pretty decent on that too.”

Midway scored once more before halftime with a 22-yard pass from junior quarterback Tyler Wright to junior tight end Chris Chandler.

“We just need to pick up our tempo,” senior offensive lineman Joey Beller said. “We were mentally focused. We are not overlooking any team.”

In the third quarter, Midway junior running back Tanner Yahnig scored on a 31-yard touchdown run and in the fourth quarter, freshman running back Tristan Driggs scored on a 4-yard run.

The Vikings, 2-0, host conference rivals Adrian at 7 p.m. tonight.

“It always feels good to win,” Beller said. “Nobody wants to lose.”

Archie, 0-2, travels to take on conference foes Drexel at 7 p.m. tonight.
