Oct. 4 Community Brief

Glorified Homemakers Club

The Glorified Homemakers Club met Sept. 17 at the University of MO Extension office in Harrisonville. Patty Anderson was the hostess and Carol Witherspoon was co-hosting. President Sue Pulliam opened the meeting by leading the pledge to the flag.

Witherspoon read “An Elderly Woman Speaks” by Jamie Dobson for the devotional. She read a number of tips on home safety. Roll call was “Show Your Yearbook Pictures” or “Tell Something About Your School” and was answered by seven members and one guest.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read, corrected and approved. The treasurer’s report was given.

Pulliam gave a report about what went on at the Quarterly Council Meeting on Sept. 4. Items were collected from members for Hope Haven. Pulliam and Goldie Cunningham volunteered to deliver them after the meeting.

There was discussion on the Annual Fall Meeting, which will be Thursday, Oct. 24, at Arcadian Moon Winery in Higginsville. Registration is 9:30-10 a.m. Money was collected from those going for reservations. Members are to meet at 8:15 a.m. at the Southland Shopping Center. Anderson volunteered to drive. Sandy Young volunteered to get the Club door prize.

The next club meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 15. It is a luncheon trip to Louisburg, Kan. Members are to meet at 11 a.m. in the Price Chopper parking lot.

Upcoming birthdays and anniversaries were announced. Anderson gave a program on Emergency Preparedness. Pulliam won the door prize. Members present were Anderson, Sandra Collings, Katrine Cummins, Cunningham, Pulliam, Witherspoon and Young. Deana Mills, sister of Collings, who is visiting from Oregon, was a guest.
