Conquering rivals

Led by sophomore Jacy Bolton, Drexel shut down Western Missouri Conference rivals Archie 25-16 and 25-16 Oct. 1 at Drexel.

In the first game, the Bobcats jumped out to an 11-4 lead before Archie started clawing its way back, earning three points in a row from Drexel errors. Archie junior Mallory Dillard got a kill, but it was followed by an out-of-bounds serve from Archie senior Jordan Schulte to make the score 12-8.

Drexel followed with an ace by junior Jordan Moles, but Archie got a kill from sophomore Kacie Fisher and the Bobcats had a 13-9 advantage.

Later in the game, with Drexel ahead at 22-15, Moles served up another ace. Drexel senior Alexis Raffety killed the ball into the net, but Archie senior Brooke Cooper served into the net to make the score 24-16. The final point came from a block by Bolton.

The second game started out slower with the score tied at 6-6 before Drexel started to pull ahead. With the Bobcats ahead at 16-13, following a kill from Archie’s Dillard, both Bolton and senior Adison Barnhart got a spike. The Whirlwinds responded with a kill from Schulte and an ace from Fisher to make the score 18-15.

Bolton got another kill and Archie had an error to put the Bobcats ahead at 20-15. After an error by Drexel, sophomore Allison Jacobs got a kill and Archie made an error. Jacobs then served up an ace, followed by another Whirlwind error to give Drexel a 24-16 lead. The final point came from a kill by junior Lauryn Campbell.

With the win, the Bobcats move to 9-3 overall while Archie falls to 3-11-2.
