NARFE meeting

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1012, will hold a luncheon meeting at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at Holmes Hall, Foxwood Springs Living Center, 1500 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore. The optional lunch is $10. Ron Miller from Blue Cross Blue Shield and Kelly Brehmer from GEHA will present information about the 2014 insurance plans. Harrisonville Fine Arts and Photography show

The Harrisonville Fine Arts and Photography show will be open through Oct. 5 in Pearson Hall at the Harrisonville Library. Hours as follows: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.


tailgate party

The Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation invites alumni to a tailgate event 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at the Panther Stadium parking lot prior to the Homecoming game.

Bone Marrow

Donor Drive

There will be a bone marrow donor drive during the Harrisonville Burnt District Festival Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4-5 on the historic Square. Attendees will have the opportunity to register as bone marrow donor and will be added to the National Bone Marrow registry. For attendees between the ages of 18 and 55, the process is simple and involves swabbing the inside of the cheeks.

Blood drive

There will be a Community Blood Center blood drive 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Harrisonville Optimist Building, 109 N. Lexington, during the Burnt District Festival.

ChildPrint ID kit

The Kiwanis Club of Harrisonville will be handing out free ChildPrint ID Kits to parents and guardians during the annual Burnt District Festival Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4-5 on the historic Harrisonville square.

Officers from the Harrisonville Police Department and deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office will assist Kiwanis Club members in distributing the kits, and will help parents complete the kits for their children. The Kiwanis Club will also be selling raffle tickets for a boy's bike and a girl's bike, with proceeds benefitting the club's ongoing community service projects.

Grin & Bear It run

Cass Regional Medical Center Foundation will host the fourth annual Grin & Bear It Run, a 5K run/walk, on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The event is held in memory of Cara Roberts, a young wife and mother who passed away in 2008. Cara's nickname was “Care Bear,” which is how the event got its name. Proceeds from the run/walk benefit the Patient Assistance Fund at Cass Regional.

The run will begin at 8 a.m. on the north side of the Harrisonville square (100 block of East Pearl Street). Registration fees are $25 to $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Raymore Historical

Society meeting

The next Raymore Historical Society will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8. The agenda for the evening is the quarterly business meeting. The society meets on the second Tuesday of each month in the museum on the lower level of the Cullen Funeral Home at 612 W. Foxwood Dr. All are welcome to attend. The museum is ADA accessible.

Fields of Faith

Members of the public are invited to attend the annual Harrisonville Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s Fields of Faith event 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Memorial Stadium. Kansas City Chiefs player Ryan Succop will be the guest speaker.

Chili supper

There will be a chili supper 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at West Line Christian Church. Chili, hot dogs and desserts will be served. Donations will be accepted for the church’s building fund.

Ham and turkey dinner

The Cass County Council on Aging is sponsoring a ham and turkey dinner buffet 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Harrisonville Community Center, 2400 Jefferson Pkwy. The buffet will include salads, dessert and a drink. Cost is $9 for adults and $3.50 for children ages 5-12. Carry outs are available. Proceeds will benefit local Meals on Wheels delivery and senior center costs.

Driver’s exam station closed

The driver examination station in Harrisonville will be closed all day Wednesday, Oct. 15, due to troop meetings.

Garage sale and cleanup

The annual Freeman citywide garage sale will be Saturday, Oct. 19. The Freeman citywide clean-up event will be Saturday, Oct. 26.

Fall women’s rally

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Kansas City South Zone will have its Fall Rally on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 310 Johnston Pkwy., Raymore. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. There is a $5 registration fee. Call 816-550-5790 for more information.

Call for artists

The Downtown Peculiar Arts and Culture District is making a call for artists and crafters for the upcoming Hometown Holiday event Saturday, Nov. 9. Artist and craft vendor forms can be obtained by visiting the DPACD website or calling 816-806-3698.
