Still undefeated

In an epic Missouri River Valley West conference battle, Pleasant Hill overcame Oak Grove 26-22 to keep a perfect season going Oct. 4 at Pleasant Hill.

The Roosters are yet to be defeated and have a 6-0 overall record and are 2-0 in conference, tied with Harrisonville.

“The boys played very hard for 48 minutes,” Pleasant Hill head coach Kyle Roach said. “It was a classic MRVC battle. We have really come together as a team, doing things for each other, being very unselfish.”

The one extra touchdown in the third quarter made the difference in the game.

Both teams were scoreless in the first quarter, but both team put in two touchdowns in the second quarter. The Roosters missed their extra point kicks however and trailed 14-12 at halftime.

It was the third quarter touchdown that pushed Pleasant Hill ahead 19-14 going into the final quarter of play. Oak Grove scored a touchdown and two-point conversion, but the Roosters put in a touchdown as well to slip past the Panthers.

Josh Shewmaker completed 14 of 22 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Sanford was his favorite receiver, catching six passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Cole Miller had four catches for 54 yards.

Shewmaker led on the ground with 14 carries for 89 yards and one touchdown. Mason Hertzog had six carries for 40 yards and Brandon Cassity had seven carries for 42 yards and one touchdown.

Kaleb Cline led the defense with 17 total tackles, one for loss and one pass break-up. Kameron Gray had 10 tackles and Delainey Taala had nine tackles and one sack. Gage Neill also had nine tackles and Sanford and Jerry Hays both had seven tackles and one pass break-up.

Pleasant Hill travels to Odessa for a MRVC West challenge at 7 p.m. tonight.
