Golfers earn spots to sectionals

Both Pleasant Hill and Belton qualified two golfers on to sectionals at their respective district tournaments earlier this week.

The Chicks took fifth place in the Class 1, District 3 tournament held Oct. 7 at Hoots Hollow, Pleasant Hill.

Pleasant Hill had a team score of 441, behind Sacred Heart in first with 341, Pembroke Hill in second with 362, Barstow in third with 375 and Odessa in fourth with 416.

“We came close to having four girls at sectionals,” Pleasant Hill head coach Eric Bloom said. “The scores for this district were the lowest they’ve been in five years. The competition continues to improve.”

Qualifying for sections for the Chicks were Krisitin Orpin with a 16th place finish and a score of 102 and Tiffany Butler with a 23rd place finish and a score of 112.

Other golfers competing were Rainey Madison in 24th with a score of 113, Olivia Woodruff in 26th with a score of 114 and Grace Dayson in 43rd with a score of 138.

Orpin and Butler will compete in the Class 1, Sectional 2 golf tournament Monday, Oct. 14 at Shirkey Golf Course, Richmond.

The Belton team finished sixth with a score of 381 in the Class 2, District 6 tournament held Oct. 8 at Hoots Hollow, behind Warrensburg in first with 340, Lee’s Summit West in second with 347, Joplin in third with 360, Carthage in fourth with 361 and Republic in fifth with 379.

Qualifying for sectionals were Rachel Hofman with a fourth place finish of 79 and Gabby Probert with a 11th place finish of 90.

Other scores were Sarah Martin in 35th with a score of 105, Hally Nelson in 37th with a score of 107 and Megan Mathis in 46th with a score of 119.

Raymore-Peculiar took eighth place with a team score of 388, qualifying one golfer for sectionals. Sophia Sadaro took seventh place with a score of 84.

Other Panther golfers were Stephanie Krass in 2th with a score of 99, Sarah Morrison in 31st with a score of 102, Shelby Bates in 34th with a score of 103 and Tanna Miller in 36th with a score of 106.

Both Belton and Raymore-Peculiar will compete in Class 2, Sectional 3 Monday, Oct. 14 at Country Club Golf Course, Marshfield.
