Third quarter struggle

Harrisonville kept pace with Missouri River Valley West conference foes Oak Grove through the first half Oct. 11 at Oak Grove.

But in the second half, the Panthers outdid the Wildcats to win 40-21.

Oak Grove started things off quickly as junior quarterback Austin Blackston connected with junior Aaron Graham for an 85-yard touchdown pass just seconds into the game.

Harrisonville responded by marching down the field with Harrisonville senior quarterback Zach Davidson found junior running back Sherman Hartzler for a 23-yard touchdown pass to knot the score.

The Panthers retaliated with a 30-yard touchdown pass to senior running back Tyler Brown. The two-point conversion try failed, but Oak Grove led 13-7.

The Wildcats came back in the second quarter with a 1-yard run by Davidson, but the point after kick was blocked, tying the score at 13-13.

Oak Grove responded with a 9-yard run by Graham. The point after kick was blocked, but the Panthers still led 19-13 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Panthers scored twice to take over a 33-13 lead. Oak Grove put in another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 9-yard run to lead 40-13.

The Wildcats scored once more before the game ended on an 87-yard touchdown pass from Davidson to sophomore wide receiver Wyatt Schenker.

Davidson completed four of eight passes for 113 yards. Austin Hopper had 37 carries for 80 yards.

Landon Hern led the defense with eight total tackles and Brance Neal had seven tackles. Nick Kreimeyer and Jake Cooper both had six tackles.

The Wildcats, 5-2, host conference rivals Odessa at 7 p.m. tonight.
