Ray-Pec students to compete in Battle of the Brains

November 1, 2013

The Raymore-Peculiar School District has 21 teams of fifth and sixth grade students competing in the Battle of the Brains, an educational competition sponsored by Science City and the Burns & McDonnell Foundation.

Students are competing to design the next exhibit at Science City. Winning schools can earn a piece of a $155,000 grant for science, technology, engineering and math education. Burns & McDonnell assigns mentors to assist teams through the process.

Fourteen teams from Bridle Ridge Intermediate School are working with Matt Cox, a structural engineer, and Ray-Pec teachers Amanda Kilgore and Lezlie Waltz.

Seven teams from Eagle Glen Intermediate School are working with mentor Amanda Olson, an electrical engineer, and Ray-Pec teachers Jason Waltz and Lezlie Waltz.

Judging will take place through Nov. 5. After finalists are announced, the public will also be able to vote on projects.
