Athletes qualify for state

The Drexel girls’ cross country team may not have had enough athletes for a team score at the Class 1, District 7 meet Nov. 2 at Lamar, but all three did earn spots to state.

The top two teams and top 15 individuals qualify for state from districts. Sarah Cawby led the way for the Bobcats with a sixth place finish of 21 minutes, 44.13 seconds. She was followed by Alyssa Sosa in ninth with 22:32.82 and Tayler Lancaster in 11th with 22:44.76.

The Drexel boys did not qualify for state but had three runners compete. Andrew Collins placed 25th with a time of 19:54.76, followed by Lincoln Williams in 28th with 20:09.5 and Trevor Gunnels in 32nd with 20:37.88.

The Midway girls had one athlete qualify for state. Tayler Pierce took 13th with a time of 23:03.5.

The other Viking girls that competed were Terri Pierce in 22nd with 24:20.16, Dee Stark in 28th with 25:04.43 and Tesa Mills in 34th with 28:17.02.

The Midway boys had two athletes at districts but did not qualify for state. Fisher Mayfield placed 36th with a time of 21:23.75 and Jackson Eberle took 40th with a time of 22:03.06.

Both of the girls competing for Sherwood at the Class 2, District 7 meet Nov. 2 at Lamar qualified for state. Shannon Feurt placed 10th with a time of 21:47.44 and Krista Johnson finished 11th with a time of 21:47.86.

The Sherwood boys included Luke Woolery in 34th with 19:29.17 and Davin Heman in 35th with 19:34.21.

The Pleasant Hill boys’ team finished third with a team score of 89 points in the Class 3, District 7 meet Nov. 2 at Raymore-Peculiar.

The Roosters were behind Grain Valley in first with 29 points and Pembroke Hill in second with 32 points.

They were led by state qualifiers Joe Madison in 13th place with a time of 18:41.3 and Christian Richardson in 15th with a time of 18:49.6.

The other Roosters competing were Jacob Watson in 17th with a time of 19:01.3, Garrett Bakken in 22nd with 18:38.2, Ryan Boland in 24th with 19:47.7 and Johnny Romer in 34th with 20:54.

The Pleasant Hill girls’ earned fifth place with a team score of 126 points, behind Notre Dame de Sion in first with 19 points, Grain Valley in second with 82 points, Pembroke Hill in third with 85 points and Raytown South in fourth with 93 points.

The Chicks were led by state qualifiers Courtney Bakken in 10th with a time of 21:39.9 and Lauren Larkins in 11th with a time of 21:41.2.

Other Pleasant Hill girls competing were Haleigh Rottinghaus in 33rd with a time of 23:36.3, Emma Moore in 38th with a time of 24:19.9, Markie Roach in 29th with 24:35.3, Kylie Heublein in 40th with 24:35.3 and Hannah Beachner in 42nd with 25:20.4.

Harrisonville’s Zoe Woodling also competed at districts, placing 34th with a time of 23:39.

The state meet will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 at Oak Hills Golf Center, Jefferson City.
