The Sherwood Cass R-VIII school district recognized seniors Tristan Morgan and Taylor Connor as the October scholar-athletes of the month. These two students were chosen because of their strong efforts in competition and academics.
Connor is a multi-sport athlete. This fall, she played softball and volleyball at the same time. Participation in two sports during the same season is very difficult because it allows little free time.
Connor has been part of a very successful softball program. In two seasons, they have posted 33 wins and only 15 losses. Also in softball, they have won three conference titles in a row and played in the district championship this season. Not only does Connor play for both teams, but she starts for them as well.
“I coached Taylor in softball and she works very hard,” Sherwood athletic director Scott Calhoun said. “Our Lady Marksmen have had a lot of success and she is a big part of it. I notice her kindness in everything she does and I know she will do great things in her life.”
Morgan plays football and baseball. He is also considering playing basketball this upcoming season. Currently, he is the starting center for the Sherwood Marksmen football squad.
“I coached Tristan in eighth grade basketball,” Calhoun said. “We finished 15-1 that season and he was a big part of that season. The young man is very coachable and never throws out negative comments. I know Tristan is going to be a very successful person in the future. I know this because he can get along well with others and he is a very hard worker.”
