Three people were seriously injured in a crash in Garden City during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Springfield residents Richard Cockrum, 82, and Linda Cockrum, 71, were parked along the shoulder of southbound Missouri Highway 7 in a 2003 Buick Park Avenue on Nov. 30 when they were struck by a southbound 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 25-year-old Jaymes Howell, Kansas City, at 2:40 p.m.

Upon impact, the Cockrums’ vehicle overturned several times and came to a rest in the median. Howell’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road.

Both vehicles were totaled, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Howell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence by LifeLight Eagle.

Linda Cockrum was transported by Garden City EMS to Research Hospital in Kansas City. Richard Cockrum was also taken by Central Cass EMS to Research.
