Joe Cole, 88, of Latour, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at his home. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Dec. 5 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation 10-11 a.m. Burial was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Joe was born March 28, 1925, in Wagoner, Okla., the son of Joe Cole and Eula Mae (Crawford) Cole. He had lived in Latour since the late 1960s/early 1970s. He married his first wife, Geneva Thomas, in 1944 and to this union six children were born. Joe married Ophelia Motley on April 26, 1963. He was a farmer, an avid fisherman and hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Geneva, an infant son, Linus Cole, two daughters, Bernitta Joyner and infant Geraldine and one brother, J. C. Cole.

He is survived by his wife, Ophelia, of the home; two sons, Robert C. Cole and Edward Scott, both of Kansas City; three daughters, JoAnn Murray (Curtis), Sommerset, N.J., Jerri R. Garrison and Sherry Scott, both of Kansas City, and four stepsons, Dennis, Eddie Dean, David, and Alonzo Nash; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Ervin, Angela Joyner, Joseph H. C. Murray, Stephanie Hood, Robin Willis, Venessa Cole Bowles, Cynthia Cole, Paula Cole, Jerri Garrison and Jessica Cole; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Frank, and one more on the way. He also is survived by several nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
