Villea Wise, 76, of Pleasant Hill, was born in Mt. Judea, Ark., the daughter of Arvel and Vadie Hefley. She died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Cozelia M. Beck

Cozelia “Cozy” M. Beck, 71, of Peculiar, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville. There will be a memorial visitation 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.

Cozy was born Aug. 1, 1942, in Boonville, the daughter of Edward and Audry (Pfeiffer) Cole. She worked as a CNA. She loved writing and had written several books. She also had several of her poems published.

Cozy was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Ginger and Marie, and one sister, Donna.

She is survived by one son, Robert Beck (Stacey); two daughters, Jackie Clary (David) and Anna Gericke (Corey); 10 grandchildren, Gingette, Travis, Michael, Joel, Jessica, Brenna, Nicole, Pete, Cole and London; and 13 great-grandchildren, Austin, Dillon, Ethan, Brady, Mia, Juél, Zeya, Anastesia, Zuri, Easton, Zoe, Jade and Urijah.

Jacob Lee Hendren, 30, of Kansas City, died Nov. 27, 2013. Funeral services were Dec. 3 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with burial in Strasburg Cemetery in Strasburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Jacob Hendren Memorial Fund, c/o Atkinson Funeral Home.

Jacob was born March 2, 1983, in Kansas City, the son of Donald Gene Dotson and Diana Lynn Hendren. He attended Appleton City High School. Jacob enjoyed working on electronics and playing video games. He was a loving father to his two precious girls and was a beloved son.

Jacob was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Willie and Kathleen Hendren, and his mother, Diana Rayburn.

He is survived by two daughters, Jaimee and Ariel Hendren; his fianceé, Brandie Callahan; his father and stepmother, Donald and Patricia Dotson; stepfather, Willie Rayburn; paternal grandparents, Guy Lee Dotson and Nola Hawkins; two brothers, Josh Hendren and fianceé, Tamie Hall and Chris Hendren; stepbrothers, Jeremy Durham, Anthony Durham, Bryan Durham, Joshua Rayburn, Samuel Rayburn, Timothy Rayburn and Cleo Johnson; two sisters, Alicia Hendren (William Callahan) and Stephany Hendren; stepsisters, Ashley and Rachel Rayburn and several nieces and nephews.

Harry Jack Turk

Jan. 17, 1929 - Nov. 30, 2013

Harry Jack Turk, 84, formerly of Rich Hill and Houston, Texas, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, in Excelsior Springs.

Jack was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Kansas City, son of Harry B. and Bonnie D. (Neely) Turk. He served his country by entering the Army in 1951 and attained the rank of Corporal before earning an honorary discharge in 1953. Jack was an engineer during his career years and was a graduate of the Finley School of Engineering. He was a member of the Rich Hill post of the American Legion; he enjoyed horseback riding, as well as sailing.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Harold Calvin.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia L. Calvin; niece Sharon Powell and husband Kent; nephews Dennis Calvin and wife Nancy, Rusty Calvin and wife Lynne, and Terry Calvin; great-nephews Trevor and Jeremy Powell, Tim Calvin, and Skylar Calvin; great-niece Patricia C. Calvin; great-great nephews Austin and Bentley Calvin; and great-great nieces Madison Powell, Elizabeth Calvin, Zowie Blue Friend and Immy Lu Calvin.

Graveside funeral services for Harry will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Berea Cemetery in Ketterman, Vernon County. There will be no visitation. Contributions are suggested to Excelsior Springs Healthcare Foundation.

Samuel J. York, 82, of Garden City, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Vitas Hospice Care, Kansas City.

Samuel is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

There is a Memorial Graveside Service at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Medford Cemetery near Holden.

Barbara F. Pound

Aug. 15, 1934 - Dec. 1, 2013

Barbara F. Pound, 79, of Peculiar, formerly of Belton, died peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Cass Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Memphis, Tenn., to Harry and Virgie Robinson.

On Dec. 25, 1951, she married Robert E. Pound. Barbara dedicated her life to raising their four boys while traveling the world as a devoted Air Force military wife to Robert. She was a lifetime member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and enjoyed doing crafts and puzzles.

She is survived by a brother, Ralph Robinson (Charlotte), of Bartlett, Tenn., and sister, Martha Wilson, of Bartlett, Tenn., and her four sons Rick (Cheryl) of Belton, Steve (Patty) of Overland Park, Kan., Ken (Lana) of Peculiar, and Joe (Natalie) of St. Johns, Fla. Barbara also leaves behind nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, nieces Stacy Bartley (Jackson, Tenn.) and Samantha Taverna (Memphis, Tenn.).

At a later date, private services will be conducted at Ft. Leavenworth Military Cemetery in Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Barbara’s name to the Patient Assistant Fund at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville.
