Students win $2,500

Freshmen Center students in Mary Cummings classroom were selected as a Top 20 Finalist winning a $2,500 grant in the 2013 Battle of the Brains Competition with their Maglev Magic project. Participating students were Shannon Coupland, Bethany Hasbarger, Kylie Giacone, Victor Ortiz, Blake Smith, Chris Thomas and Hayley Wells. The Battle of the Brains competition is an opportunity to to spark an interest and passion that will impact what they may study in college and what career they may pursue. Students create a project proposal for an exhibit at Science City in Kansas City and the winning school’s proposal becomes a reality. The contest started with 3,500 students, 501 entries and 193 schools pursuing this dream.
