Gladden teacher donates kidney

Gladden Elementary honored a special teacher at an assembly Dec. 12. Special Education teacher and last year’s Gladden Teacher of the Year, Elizabeth Hart volunteered to give one of her kidneys to third grade teacher Michelle Lewis’ husband, Damon Lewis. The surgery took place Dec. 17. During the assembly, students were visited by Midwest Transplant Network representatives who talked about the gift of life from transplants to the recipients. The Midwest Transplant Network presented a “Donate Life” flag to Gladden Elementary at the end of the assembly and all Gladden staff wore shirts in support of Hart and Lewis.
