Police and fire crews investigated a mobile home fire that has left a man dead in Belton.

Belton Fire Chief Steve Holle said a 911 call was made by an individual who saw the fire within the trailer park area at 8:33 a.m. Jan. 2 at a home on Iris Lane, near the intersection of Springdale Drive.

According to a neighbor, Josh Robertson had been leaving home to get breakfast when he heard a popping noise, looked around the corner and saw flames coming out the windows of the victim’s home.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the home fully engulfed in flames.

“It was well enough involved that (firefighters) knew they weren’t going to make an interior attack,” Holle said.

Mutual aid was provided by West Peculiar and South Metro Fire Protection Districts.

Holle said to his knowledge, there was only one occupant, Danny Emmons, 65, in the residence at the time of the fire. Rescuers found the man’s body in his hallway. The victim was removed from the scene by the Jackson County Medical Office.

The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined.

“We couldn’t rule out electrical or smoking, or something like that,” Holle said.

No other injuries were reported, but a neighboring trailer home did receive minor damage.

“I observed a little bit of damage to an adjacent trailer,” Holle said.
