Head-on collision injures 3

A 50-year-old Pittsburg, Kan. man was seriously injured after the vehicle he was driving along Rt. D in Cass County was hit head-on.

The crash occurred at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 16, north of 164th Street, near Loch Lloyd.

Stephen Birchmeier was transported to Research Main Hospital, along with the two occupants in the second vehicle.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2000 Ford Taurus driven by Christopher Basinski, 18, Belton, was traveling northbound on Rt. D when it began passing an uninvolved vehicle in a no passing zone and struck Birchmeier’s 2001 Ford Explorer as he was traveling in the southbound lane. The vehicles collided head on.

As a result of the crash, Basinski received minor injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, 16-year-old Taylor Basinski, Belton, received moderate injuries.

All vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Cass County Sheriff Office deputies assisted at the scene.
