Darral Wayne Shissler, 54, of Belton, formerly of Lee’s Summit, was born on the Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan, the son of James and Ruth Shissler. He died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Home, Belton. Funeral services were Jan. 17 at funeral home with burial in Staley Mound Cemetery.

Linda Faye Walker, 71, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Hill, was born the daughter of James and Lela Parris. She died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at her home.

Funeral services were Jan. 20 at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Conway and Reverend D. Kent Deubner officiated. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Leslie Harold “Les” Judy, 88, of Pleasant Hill, was born in Oskaloosa, Kan., the son of Alvin and Dora Judy. He died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at St. Luke’s-East Hospital, Lee’s Summit.

Les was a proud U.S. Navy veteran.

Funeral services were Jan. 23 at the funeral home. Cremation accorded following service. Inurnment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Bertie (Bert) L. Proctor, 85, of Peculiar, was born in Fristoe, the son of Birchie and Carrie Proctor. He died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Lee’s Summit.

Funeral services were Jan. 23 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Lee’s Summit, with burial in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar.

Larry Lee Shepard, 80, of Greenwood, was born the son of William and Vella Shepard. He died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at his home.

Larry was a proud U.S. Navy veteran.

Funeral services were Jan. 24. Full military honors were performed by the U.S. Navy and the V.F.W. Post No. 3118 Honor Guard. Cremation. Inurnment was in Lee’s Summit Cemetery.

Brenda Jo (Vermillion) Howard

Brenda Jo (Vermillion) Howard, 53, of Yellville, Ark., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House in Mountain Home, Ark. Funeral services were Jan. 24 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Virginia Cemetery, Virginia, Bates County.

Brenda was born Aug. 25, 1960, in Butler, the daughter of James and Betty Jo (Howe) Vermillion. She was a 1978 graduate of Harrisonville High School and received a business degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. She worked for Zachry Construction in Texas for 10 years before moving to Houston, Texas, where she managed a Conoco Station. Brenda moved back to Harrisonville in 2003 and worked for Integra Home Care for two years. She then moved to Lead Hill, Ark., where she lived her dream of owning and managing a smoke shop and used furniture store for four years. Brenda married Howard Whitely in 1980 and to this union she had one son, Lee, and one daughter, Susie. On Dec. 29, 2000, she married Robert Howard.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home; one son, Lee Whitely, and his wife, Whitney, Lead Hill, Ark.; one daughter, Susie Hallmark, of Alabama; her mother and stepfather, Betty and Johnnie Reynolds, Harrisonville; two grandchildren, Ashten and Forrest, and other relatives and friends.

Jessie Dean Cornett, Sr.

Dec. 22, 1939 - Jan. 22, 2014

Jessie Dean Cornett, Sr., 74, of Creighton, was born Dec. 22, 1939, in Parker, Kan., the son of Robert Franklin and Helen Marie (Fritts) Cornett. He died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at his home surrounded by love and family.

On Dec. 1, 1960, Jessie was united in marriage to Margie Belle Kirk in Urich.

Jessie was a farmer, stockman and, later, a truck driver for JB Hunt. After his retirement, he went back to farming. He was an Army veteran, a rock and gem collector, loved to hunt and fish, loved all kinds of animals, was a bee keeper, an avid reader and would read anything he could get his hands on.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Correnna Yvette Cornett; a great-grandson, Avery Cornett; and three infant brothers.

Jessie is survived by his wife Margie Cornett of the home; his three sons, Jessie Cornett, Jr., and his wife Nancy, Creighton, Robert Franklin Cornett and James Flint Cornett, both of the home; two daughters, Joyce Elaine Cornett, Creighton, and Michelle Renia Branson, Kansas City; one brother, Larry Cornett and his wife Glenda, Osceola; one sister, Elsie Marie Verdict, Rogers, Ark.; five grandchildren, Correnna, Jessie, III, Courtney, Daniel, and Derek; eight great-grandchildren; a family friend, Tanisha Falley; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were Jan. 25 at Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, with burial in the Parker Cemetery near Creighton.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Twin Lakes Hospice.

Hattie Robuck, 100, of Belton, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, in Raymore. She was born in Peculiar to Pearl and Mary (Taylor) Pitts.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at the visitation and funeral Jan. 28 at First Christian Church in Belton. Burial was afterwards Jan. 28 in Liberty Cemetery.
