Doris Jean Weide

Sept. 9, 1930 - Jan. 27, 2014

Doris Jean Weide, 83, of Garden City, was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Holden, the daughter of Osha Lee and Anna May (Mansell) Hampton. She died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, surrounded by her children and family.

She loved to talk about her childhood on the farm, helping her brother Bob do the milking and her father in the field. Fried chicken was her specialty and in her younger years she enjoyed canning vegetables from the family garden. Doris never missed a garage sale or taking in all of the garage sales along the road and going to the Dollar Store. During the growing season, Doris would not miss helping Alvin “run his community market.” She enjoyed talking to all of the customers and buying something from all of the vendors. Doris loved her yard and yard ornaments, especially angels. She enjoyed her special time with her granddaughter, Monica, taking the “old ladies” to Clinton and eating at Pizza Glen.

Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Uel; her daughter, Kathy Joan; three brothers, Melvin, Virgil and Bob Hampton; two sisters, Edith Courtney and Nora Gudde.

Doris is survived by three sons, Virgil Poisal (Sharon) Harrisonville, Melvin Poisal (Shirley) and Alvin Poisal (Connie) all of Garden City; two daughters, Janice Brindle, Belton, Holly Morris, Creighton; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Annie Hampton, Colorado Springs, Colo., Maxine Kile, Greedwood, Margaret Irvine, Pittsville.

Doris was well known for saying what she thought when she thought it. As we age, I have found that it was not necessarily a bad way to be. We will miss you Momma. We love you. Tell Jesus and Kathy hi
