Candidate filing for individuals looking to get their name on the August primary ballot for Cass County offices will begin in the county clerk’s office at the Courthouse at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The jobs of the Presiding Commissioner, County Clerk, Circuit Clerk, Recorder of Deeds, Prosecuting Attorney, County Auditor, Collector of Revenue and the Associate Circuit Judges office holders will be on the ballot.
Filing will be open through 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 25.
Janet Burlingame, Cass County Clerk and Election Authority announced Feb. 7 that she will utilize the “random drawing” process on the first day of candidate filing for county offices to be nominated at the primary election on Aug. 5.
“This process will eliminate the need for candidates to ‘camp out’ at the Clerk’s office days before filing opens in order to be assured of the first spot on the ballot and will allow for a fairer ballot draw in the random drawing,” Burlingame said.
First-day candidates may find out what position they will hold on the ballot at the end of the day on Feb. 25.
The random drawing procedure will only be used on the first day of filing.
“Candidates filing after the first day will be placed on the ballot in the order they file,” Burlingame said.
