Norma Carroll Walker, 73, of Pleasant Hill, was born in McFall, the daughter of Robert and Clara Fanning. She died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at her son’s home.

Visitation was Feb. 21 and funeral services were Feb. 22 at the funeral home. Reverend Tony Reynolds officiated. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Lucy N. (Punziano) Palomba, 91, of Pleasant Hill, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014. Rosary Recitation was Feb. 23 at Wallace Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at St. Gregory The Great Roman Catholic Church, Williamsville, N.Y.

Father Donald Cleary, 84, of Olathe, Kan., formerly of Harrisonville, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville. Family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, at Dickey Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Martha Carol Frein

April 29, 1932 - Feb. 23, 2014

Martha Carol Frein, of Harrisonville, was born April 29, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of William Walter and Consuelo Loretta (Laub) Turner. She died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville.

On Aug. 4, 1956, Martha was united in marriage to Donald Elmo Frein in Minneapolis, Minn.

Martha was employed as a nurse at the office of her husband, Donald E. Frein, M.D. Prior to that, she was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City; before her marriage, she taught nursing classes at Kalamazoo, Mich. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville. Martha served two terms on the Harrisonville School Board, as well as several years as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She was a patron of both the Nelson-Atkins Museum and the Missouri Repertory Theater in Kansas City. She was an avid reader, a passion which she passed on to her children. Martha also loved gardening and bird watching.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by Donald E. Frein, M.D., on Feb. 14, 2011.

Martha is survived by sons: Bill Frein and wife Julie of Baltimore, Md.; Paul Frein and wife Betsy of Grandview; Matthew Frein and wife Candace of Bloomington, Minn.; daughters: Beth Frein of Lee’s Summit and Ruth Best of Gary, Ind.; grandchildren: Nate, Aaron, Victoria and Katrina; sisters: Joan Richardson of Minneapolis, Minn.; Sylvia Nath of Peoria, Ill.; Adrienne Carney of Prior Lake, Minn.; other relatives and friends.

Cremation. There will be a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, with inurnment in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Family received friends 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Cass County Public Library-Harrisonville branch.

Orvel E. Hatfield, Jr.

Aug. 14, 1934 - Feb. 23, 2014

Orvel Edgar Hatfield, Jr., 79, of Peculiar, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Research Medical Center. A celebration of his life will include a visitation 6-8 p.m. Feb. 27 at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.

Orvel’s wonderful and blessed life began as the third son to parents Orvel Edgar and Francis Marie (McAfee) Hatfield, Sr., on Aug. 14, 1934 in Cardin, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lawrence Hatfield.

Orvel enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1963. He retired from Bayer Corporation in 1996 after 34 years of service. In his retirement, Orvel loved to care for his roses, spend time with his grandchildren and “tinker” with his many projects.

Orvel was married to the love of his life, Roberta “Bertie,” for 52 years. He was a family man first and foremost and adored his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Orvel was an animal lover and was kind, gentle and generous to all he met. He was a great listener and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Orvel leaves his wife, Roberta; daughter and son-in law Teresa and Michael “Mick” Henry, two grandchildren, Zachary and Chloe Newton; brothers, Floyd (Lyola) Hatfield and Robert (Karen) Hatfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Feb. 24, 2014

Clyde Fairbanks, 64, of Harrisonville, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at his home surrounded by love and family.

The funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Visitation will be 5:30-7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the funeral home. Cremation to follow the service.

Walter Raymond “Ray” Frogge

April 20, 1932 - Feb. 25, 2014

Walter Raymond “Ray” Frogge, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014. Visitation will begin at noon followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hillcrest Rd. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.

Ray was born April 20, 1932, in Kansas City to Walter Adrian and Susie L. (Oliver) Frogge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruby Craig.

After graduating from Ruskin High School in 1949, he attended the Findlay Engineering College and was then drafted into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Sergeant. On June 7, 1953, he married his high-school sweetheart Dorothy Jean Smith. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he attended University of Kansas. Ray was a Registered Land Surveyor and worked for Anderson Survey Company for 50 years before retiring in 2007. His ability and persistence in solving complicated problems and presenting solutions made him a highly respected expert in his field. A true professional, he encouraged and inspired others to develop similar skills. Ray was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the great outdoors. He enjoyed sports of all kinds including fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling and mushroom hunting. Whether at work or play, Ray lived life to the fullest, getting the most out of every day. The high standards he set for himself served as motivation to others. Ray was loved by those around him and will be greatly missed by all.

He leaves his wife of over 60 years, Dorothy; three children, Danny Frogge, Raylene (Jef) Walker, Douglas (Lisa) Frogge; four grandchildren, Shayla (Brian) Black, Logan Walker, Katie and Jillian Frogge; and nephew Robert Craig.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Cass Regional Medical Center Foundation in Harrisonville.
