To help students who might not have access to books over the summer, Bright Futures Harrisonville will sponsor the second annual book drive March 23-30. Last year’s drive enabled Bright Futures to send three to four books home with over 200 students last summer.
Both new and gently used books will be collected for students in grades kindergarten through high school.
Blue barrels have been set up throughout the community to collect items throughout the year and those barrels are the drop off locations for books. Barrels can be found at Commerce Bank, the Community Center, the United Methodist Church, the Cass County Public Library, the district administrative office, Sherwood Community Bank, the First Christian Church, the Nazarene Church, Community Bank of Harrisonville, Heartland Baptist Church, and all district schools.
Those interested in purchasing books for the book drive have a couple of options. First, the elementary schools are hosting book fairs March 25-27. You can visit the book fair during school hours, purchase books an d drop them in the Bright Futures collection bin. The middle school book fair is March 31-April 4 and the collection will be extended through the book fair there. Second, Bright Futures Harrisonville has created a Wish List on Amazon.com called Bright Futures Harrisonville. Search for that list and purchase a book or two from it or you can purchase an Amazon gift card and send it via email to Bright Futures.
Bright Futures Harrisonville is a community-wide initiative developed to ensure all students have the opportunity to be successful. The initiative brings together several areas of the community – business, parents, faith-based, social/human services, and the schools – with the hope that our children’s needs can be met with resources from within the community. Bright Futures focuses, not only physical needs, but emotional and social needs as well, and seeks resources that include “time, talent and treasure.”
Anyone can be involved with Bright Futures Harrisonville.
