Juniors and seniors at Ray-Pec High School will view a simulated crash Wednesday, March 26, in front of the south high school.
The event is presented every other year and is a combined effort of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and the Drama Club, under the direction of the club sponsors, Tina Fultz, business teacher, and Todd Schnake, theatre teacher. School Resource Officer Audra Ayers coordinates participation by local emergency personnel.
The event is a realistic enactment of a serious crash involving teenagers. Emergency personnel participate in the enactment, and events occur much as they would at an actual accident scene.
Seniors will view the mock crash at 7:55 a.m. and then will attend a reflection assembly by the Missouri Highway Patrol. Juniors will view the mock crash at 8:55 a.m. and then attend the assembly in the auditorium.
G.T. Tow is providing the crash vehicles. Drama students will portray drivers and passengers in the event, which is scheduled to include participation by the South Metro and West Peculiar Fire Protection Districts, the Atkinson Funeral Home of Harrisonville, and LifeFlight Eagle. Trooper Andy Bell is scheduled to speak during the assembly.
