Foundation announces scholarship deadline for HHS seniors

The Harrisonville Public School Foundation will present over $15,000 in scholarships to Harrisonville High School seniors this May.

The application deadline for all Foundation scholarships is Friday, April 11, and the applications are available online at www.harrisonvilleschools.org/foundation.

The Bob Hodge Achievement Award could provide the recipient up to $10,000 as they will receive $4,000 the first year and have the opportunity to renew the scholarship for $2,000 each year for the next three years. Criteria for the scholarship include academic achievement (ACT score of 25 or higher), acceptance at a Missouri state college or university, excellent citizenship, community involvement and financial need.

The Stephen and Virginia Childress Athletic Award, in the amount of $1,500, is based on athletic and academic achievements, as well as community and school activities.

The Steve Catron Memorial Scholarship is a $300 award. It is presented annually to a senior based on music and athletic achievement, as well as community and school activities.

The William G. and Nettie Z. Deacon Family Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship with the potential for second semester renewal. It is based on academic achievement, good citizenship and financial need. Preference is given to those applicants who plan to pursue a career in the medical/nursing profession.

The John and Wanda Foster Construction Trades Scholarship is presented annually to a Harrisonville senior planning to study building trades, architecture, civil engineering or other related field. It is a $500 award.

The Cara Roberts Memorial Scholarship is presented annually to an HHS senior attending the University of Central Missouri. The essay requires students to explain how they plan to make a difference in others’ lives. It is a $1,000 award.

The Scott T. Morse Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $1,250, is based on academics, acceptance into a four-year college/university, citizenship, community involvement and demonstration of strength in overcoming a trial or hardship in life.
