James Norman Prewitt, 85, of Windsor, Colo., formerly of Pleasant Hill, was born April 19, 1928, in Pleasant Hill. He died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Windsor Health Care Center, in Windsor, Colo.

In April 1951, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany until his discharge in March 1953.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the funeral home. Graveside military services and interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3118 Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Florence Bailey

July 28, 1924-March 25, 2014

Florence Bailey, 89, of Peculiar, was born in Olathe, Kan., the daughter of William and Hattie May (Renner) Saltzman. She died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at The Rehabilitation Center of Raymore surrounded by love and family.

Lucille Wilson

Aug. 24, 1927-March 25, 2014

Lucille Wilson, 86, of Harrisonville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. March 29 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation 10-11 a.m. Burial was in Wills Cemetery in Peculiar.

Lucille was born Aug. 24, 1927, in Lebanon, the daughter of Elmer and Alice (DeCorsey) Davis. She was a lifelong Cass County resident. She married Lester W. Wilson on Nov. 7, 1942.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lester.

She is survived by two sons, Loyd D. “Sonny” Wilson, Harrisonville, and Charles Wilson (Linda), Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Mary L. Sappenfield, Pleasant Hill, Sharon Brown (Daniel), Harrisonville, and Donna L. Morrison (Luke), Harrisonville; 11 grandchildren, Timothy Sappenfield, Sarah Sappenfield, Michael Sappenfield, Pamela Rogers, Alan Wilson, Stacy Tabuas, Justin Tabuas, Shelly Brown, Travis Tabuas, Richard Brown, and Jakob Knoblauch; nine great-grandchildren, Timothy Rogers, Samantha Kopfer, Paul Rogers, Jr., Tiara Rogers, Heath Rogers, Chandler Tabuas, Trenton Tabuas, Kayle Brown, and Cadence Brown; and three great-great-grandchildren, Cameron, Landon, and Aiden Kopfer.

Ellen Elaine Cantrell

May 31, 1956-March 26, 2014

Ellen Elaine Cantrell, 57, of Archie, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit. Funeral services were March 30 at the Archie School Dome in Archie with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian.

Ellen was born May 31, 1956, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of William “Bill” Hale and Marian Elaine (Rice) Griffin. Ellen grew up in Harrisonville, where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Jim Cantrell on June 2, 1990, at United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. They had lived in East Lynne and Austin before moving to Archie. Ellen worked in the food service department at Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville for 17 years. Ellen also had volunteered at Archie School for several years. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Archie and also was a member of the Jolly 60’s Club in Archie.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home; one son, Josh Cantrell, Archie, and one brother, Tom Griffin, and his wife, Donna, Harrisonville.

Kenneth “Ken” Lloyd Berryman, Jr.

Kenneth “Ken” Lloyd Berryman, Jr., 56, of Holden, but called Harrisonville his home, was born the son of Kenneth Lloyd and Jeanne Bernadette (Riley) Berryman. He died Thursday, March 27, 2014.

Jenny Violet Floyd

Sept. 21, 1919-March 27, 2014

Jenny Violet Floyd, 94, of Blue Springs, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Country Oak Village in Grain Valley. Funeral services were April 1 at First United Methodist Church in Blue Springs. Graveside services were in Wills Cemetery in Peculiar. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice or to the church.

Jenny was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Warsaw, the daughter of Charles E. and Elsie (Bailey) Hughes. She grew up in the Peculiar area and had attended Pleasant Prairie Rural School No. 120 in Union Township. She married James R. Floyd on Dec. 22, 1942, in Kansas City.

Jenny had a number of jobs in her early life, including working at the post office in Peculiar in the 1940s, Sears and owned a café in Peculiar. She had lived in Kansas City and Claycomo before moving to Blue Springs in 1984. She had always been an active member in her church and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Blue Springs.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James, on Jan. 19, 2011.

She is survived by two daughters, Annette Lackey (Larry) and Roma Troxel (Fred), all of Blue Springs; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Heather Ann Parris, 58, of Pleasant Hill, was born in Holden, the daughter of Earl Wilson and Clarice Jean (Ferguson) Mitchell. She died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Vitas Hospice Center of Research Hospital, Kansas City. Funeral services were April 2 at the funeral home. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Ruth Pilot

July 31, 1941-March 31, 2014

Ruth (Yarnell) Pilot, 72, of Harrisonville, died Monday, March 31, 2014, at her home. She was born July 31, 1941, to Reynard and Dorothy (James) Yarnell in El Dorado Springs.

Ruth was saved in a revival at Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Pacetown. In 1959, she married Donald L. Schmidt. To this union two children were born, Wanda and Russell.

Preceding Ruth in death were her parents, Reynard and Dorothy Yarnell.

Survivors include her ex-husband and loving friend, Donald L. Schmidt; her daughter, Wanda Parham and husband, Donal J., of Harrisonville; her son, Russell Schmidt, of Harrisonville; four grandchildren, Jacob Schmidt and wife, Andi, of Creighton; Dustin Parham and wife, Becky, of Kansas City; Danielle Parham, of Garden City; and Samantha Schmidt, of Texas; two great-grandchildren, Haleigh Schmidt and Bentley Schmidt; two sisters, Dolores Schuchman and husband, Carl, of El Dorado Springs, and Mickie Fife and husband, Steve, of Branson; two nieces, Janet Lasley and Jeanne Nikodim and husband, Jim; and nephew, Dale Lasley, and wife, Kelly; and great-niece, Ashton Lasley, and other friends and loved ones.

Funeral services for Ruth were at 11 a.m. April 3 at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Bro. Everett Smith officiating. There was a visitation at 10 a.m. Interment followed at Hazel Dell Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
