Harrisonville Educator of the Year finalists named

The Harrisonville Public School Foundation, along with the Harrisonville School District, has named finalists for the district’s Educator of the Year and Support Staff Employee of the Year awards.

Finalists for the Educator of the Year include McEowen Elementary fifth grade teacher Charity Bennett, Harrisonville High School art teacher Melissa Chaney, McEowen Title I Math teacher Wendy Courter, Harrisonville High School communication arts teacher Sarah Cummings, and Cass Career Center integrated math teacher Greta Riffle.

Finalists for the Support Staff Employee of the Year include Harrisonville Middle School paraprofessional Jamie Baum, Harrisonville Elementary School paraprofessional Kristine Detweiler, McEowen food service manager Brenda Moreland, and Harrisonville High School custodian Wanda Ohler.

Each of the finalists will be interviewed by a panel of judges from outside the school district. The Harrisonville Schools Educator of the Year and Support Staff Employee of the Year will be announced at the district’s End-of-the-Year Celebration at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in the Harrisonville High School Performing Arts Center.

Prior to the ceremony, the district will have a retirement reception 3:30-4:15 p.m. for all retiring employees of the district. Those retiring include Harrisonville High School library media specialists Vickie Hamilton, Harrisonville High School physical education teacher Chuck Lliteras, and Harrisonville Middle School science teacher Joy Shiffer. The community is invited to the event.
