Jon Jack William Streit, 78, of Harrisonville, died Friday, May 9, 2014, in Kansas City. There will be a celebration of life service at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at United Methodist Church in Harrisonville with visitation 5-6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Jack was born April 4, 1936, in Manly, Iowa, the son of Burrell and Marie (Meyer) Streit. He was a 1954 graduate of Elkador Iowa High School, where he played football and basketball. He married Vonna McCormack on March 24, 1961, at United Methodist Church in Warrensburg.
He went to linotype school before becoming a print press operator for several newspapers, including the Warrensburg Herald, Drexel Star and the Cass County Democrat Missourian. He retired after 24 years as a press operator for Spangler Printing. Jack had lived in Warrensburg before moving to Harrisonville in 1962. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and was an honorary member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. More than anything, Jack loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vonna, of the home; his five children and their spouses, Kenneth and Virginia Douglas of McKinney, Texas, Michelle and Randy Otterbein of Sumner, Iowa, Steven and Michelle Streit of Harrisonville, Larry and Brenda Streit of Overland Park, Kan., and Melissa Streit of Lawrence, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, Josh, Jennifferr, Stephanie, Branden, Amy, Ryan, Dustin, Garrett, Aaron, Nicole, Deanna and Baylee; two great-grandchildren, Reagan and Easton; one sister, Kay Bauer of Knoxville, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
