HHS artists honored

The Harrisonville High School Art Department had its sixth annual art show at the end of the year. Winners were named in numerous categories.

Earning the show’s top award, the Principal’s Choice, was Haley Brown. Brown’s piece will become part of the HHS art collection. Runners-up for Principal’s Choice were Lia Lloyd and another piece by Brown.

Professional judges viewed the works and selected first through fourth place winners in each of the art courses offered at the high school.

In the Art I category, winners were Christia Stein, Portrait, 1st place; Maxx Cook, Scratch Art, 2nd place; CJ Semler, Purple Faces, 2nd place; Douglas Croy, Optical Illusion, 3rd place; and Caitlyn Erwin, Optical Illusion, 4th place.

In Drawing, first place went to Haley Brown, Fiddler; Hannah Gibler, Hands and Feet; and Bailey Jackson, Batman. Second place went to Yaneli Chavez, Lion with Cub and Michaela Hill, Nick Nolte. A three-way tie for third went to Payje Ripperger, Chimp; Ben Styron, Courthouse; and Wyatt Schenker, Puzzle. Earning fourth place was Kaitlyn Patterson, Eye and CJ Semler, House on Pearl Street.

First place in the Painting category was earned by Kathryn Yoder, Sea Turtle and Lia Lloyd, Instruments. Lisa Vaccaro, Tea Cups took second. In third and fourth place were Haley Brown, Old Cars and Christia Stein, Angel Fish.

In the Ceramics category, those taking home awards were first place Kathryn Yoder and Kayla Marks; 2nd place Payje Ripperger and Rebekah Freeman; and 3rd place Lisa Vaccaro and Kate Stafford.

The top four finishers in the 3-D Design category were Austin Heermann, Hailey Helm, Malynn Miller, and Molly Jackson, respectively.

Senior awards were presented as follows: 1st place Taylor Chancellor, Mermaid and Books; Emily Sewell, Game Boards and Man Over City; Kaitlyn Austin, Planets; Brianna Kendrick, Ceramic Bust; Jacob Arnold, T-shirts; and Kyle Hix, Otter; 2nd place Sabrina Tinsley, Hair Prints and Age Progression; Alison Krenzer, Jelly Fish; Kaitlyn Austin, Kiss and Charcoal Portrait; Taylor Chancellor, Prince and Princess; and Emily Sewell, Old House; 3rd place Samantha Geier, Duck Dynasty; Jacob Arnold, Eagle; Sabrina Tinsley, Pumpkins; Kaitlyn Austin, Glitter; Olivia Styron, Dress; Alison Krenzer, Holocaust; and Samantha Bowers, Ceramics; and 4th place Katy Eisenbrandt, CJ; Taylor Chancellor, Faces Diptych; Emily Sewell, Hippies; Brianna Kendrick, Pool Table; Jacob Arnold, Tavern; and Samantha Geier, Si.

HHS faculty also chose the Top 10 winners. Those included Haley Brown, Violinist and Cars; Kathryn Yoder, Turtle; Lisa Vaccaro, Tea Cups; Kayla Marks, Giraffe; Samantha Geier, Fishing; Taylor Chancellor, Ice Princess and Yellow Roses; Lia Lloyd, Instruments; and Hannah Gibler, Hands and Feet.

Over 300 pieces were in the show with 18 seniors displaying their own portfolio. All the artwork was completed as part of HHS art classes taught by Melissa Chaney and Becky Bruns-Gover.
