A homicide investigation is underway after Cass County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered a gunshot victim at Wills Cemetery in rural Peculiar.
According to investigators, a person called to notify law enforcement at 2:30 p.m. June 4 that they had saw the body of the deceased person in the cemetery, located in the 21800 block of S. Thorngrove Road.
Deputies and emergency responders arrived to the scene and located one victim, identified by police as 25-year-old Forrest Fuller, Peculiar, near a vehicle in the cemetery.
Fuller was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said foul play appears to be involved.
“We are currently investigating it as a homicide,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Kevin Tieman said.
Tieman said it appears that Fuller died from an apparent gunshot wound, and that the incident occurred around the time of the call.
Additional law enforcement officers from the Kansas City Metro Squad, a special investigations team consisting of detectives from the surrounding area, reported to Cass County on Thursday morning to assist the Sheriff’s Office in the case.
Ten teams of investigators are following up on information and evidence collected by Cass County detectives.
“It appears that Mr. Fuller had been shot and at this time we have asked for the assistance of the Metro Squad,” said Sheriff Dwight Diehl in a news release Thursday morning.
The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy of the victim’s body. No other details of the investigation have been released at this time.
According to information recorded on recent court documents found on Missouri Case Net, Fuller's listed residential address is located about one mile from the cemetery where his body was found.
It is unknown at this time whether or not if the victim was living at that location prior to his death.
