JoAnna Massey

After an intensive application process, 2014 Midway graduate JoAnna Massey has been selected to participate in the GRAMMY Museum’s Music Revolution Project.

The GRAMMY Museum’s highly selective Music Revolution Project offers creative and gifted musicians the opportunity to engage in musical discourse and performance with other talented young people from their area. High school students from genres including classical, jazz, pop, Hip-Hop, folk, sacred, and Rock and Roll will attend the world-class music academy, created to broaden their musical and creative skill. This four-week summer academy will begin Monday, June 16, in Kansas City and culminate Friday, July 11, with a formal student concert. While the names of the participating mentors remain secret until academy time, past mentors have included artists such as Lady Gaga and Fall Out Boy.

Massey also has been honored this year by winning second place in the statewide Robert J. Stukey Essay Contest sponsored by the University of Missouri Friends of the Libraries. She received a certificate and a check from the organization for her essay about the stereotyping of female protagonists and the genres in which they appear in popular literature and movies.

Massey plans to attend Missouri Western State University in the fall and major in music. She already has been accepted into MO Western’s Concert Chorale. She is the daughter of Monte and Angela Massey, of Cleveland, and is the granddaughter of Bob and Christi Ogden.
