HHS theatre students honored

June 13, 2014

Three Harrisonville High School students have been honored by the Kansas City Cappies organization for their work on theatre productions this year.

Jocelyn Donegan earned a Cappie for Costume Design for The Sound of Music and Austin Hopper and Dustin Wallen received the Cappie for Set Design for the HHS production of M*A*S*H.

Other HHS students nominated for a Cappie include Jade Jakubowski for Choreography for The Sound of Music, Hannah Gibler for Female Vocalist for The Sound of Music, Dakota Mathew for Male Vocalist for The Sound of Music, and Mathew Bartlett for Lead Actor in a Play for M*A*S*H.

The KC Cappies were presented during a gala at Ruskin High School on May 31. During the opening medley at the event, Mathew performed his solo. Additionally, four HHS students were recognized as Commendees. They included Caitlin Hahn, Timmy Johnico, Collin Shepherd and Mark Tanner.

The Cappies, “Critics and Awards Program,” is a program through which high school theatre and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers.

At the end of the year, the student critics vote for awards that are presented at a formal Cappies Gala.
