Kenneth Wayne Helms, 78, of Creighton, was born Jan. 10, 1936, in Lamar, the son of John Matthew and Alta Juanita (Thornburg) Helms. He died Friday, June 27, 2014, at his home surrounded by love and family.

On Sept. 11, 1977, Kenneth was united in marriage to Emma Jo (Clarkson) Field in Butler.

Kenneth was employed as a truck driver for Whistle Ready Mix in Pleasant Hill. Earlier, he was employed by JE Dunn, Kansas City, and Marley Cooling Towers, Olathe, Kan. Kenneth liked to fish but his greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy M. Helms, and his stepfather, Mearle Randolf.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Emma Helms, of the home; five daughters, Juanita Helms, Garden City, Susan Saubers and husband Nick, Dorothy Hankins all of Adrian, Sandy Thompson and husband Bruce, Creighton, Sherry Green and husband LaMont, Belton; two sons, Anthony Field and wife Darlene, Springfield, Mark Field and wife Glenda, Adrian; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; three brothers, George Helms and Loren Helms both of Yuba City, Calif., Archie Helms, Urich; stepmother, Lottie Helms, Yuba City, Calif.; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services were June 30 at Byler Cemetery near Creighton.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Serenity Care Hospice.
