Golden Anniversary

July 4, 2014

On July 4, 1964, Margaret Bufton and George Bandré III were united in marriage at the Federated Church of Sycamore, Ill. Joined by their parents, M.R. and Hazel Bufton and George and Ruth Bandré, maid of honor Janet Schmalfeldt and best man Franklin Andrews, family and friends, Marg and George began a life together that has included stops in Sycamore, Ill., Ridgeway, Va., many years in Harrisonville, and now their retirement home in Kansas City.

An elementary educator with a degree from SUNY-New Paltz and teaching experience in Georgia and Illinois, Marg continued teaching until children arrived. In due course, she returned to the classroom as a well-known substitute teacher in Harrisonville and volunteered countless hours with school programs, including the Royal Regiment Band Boosters and other events where her sons were involved.

An engineer with a degree from Duke University and two years active duty in the U.S. Navy, serving as a plank owner on the USS Kitty Hawk, George spent his professional career as an administrator with Anaconda Wire and Cable, the same company where both his father and father-in-law had worked. The Harrisonville Optimist Club, youth baseball, Cub Scouts, and other school-related programs all benefitted from his volunteer hours.

Parents of Mark (Trish), Mike (Lisa), and David (Ginger), and grandparents to Mason, Connor, Ethan, Trent, Kate, and Luke, the Bandré’s are celebrating their 50th Anniversary with family and friends.
