Charles E. Eagleburger

April 2, 1928 - June 22, 2014

Charles Edward Eagleburger, 86, of Pleasant Hill, was born near Marshfield to Orval C. and Lema Jane (Vinyard) Eagleburger. He died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at his home surrounded with love and family.

Charles was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, earning two Purple Hearts.

Funeral services were June 26 at the funeral home Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army and the Pleasant Hill V.F.W. Post No. 3118 Honor Guard.

George A. Kessler

Aug. 1, 1943 - June 24, 2014

George A. Kessler, 70, was born in Pleasant Hill and died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of James H. Kessler, Sr., and Gertrude D. (Loup) Kessler.

The funeral service for George was June 30 at Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill.

Mary Adele McVay

Nov. 25, 1920 - June 24, 2014

Mary Adele McVay, 93, of Archie, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 7, at First Baptist Church in Archie with visitation 1-2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Mary was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Richmond, Va., the daughter of Meredith D. and Ruby Lee (Saunders) Warriner. She married George Elton McVay on April 6, 1945, in Richmond, Va. They moved to a farm north of Harrisonville in 1946 and later to a farm south of Harrisonville. Mary had numerous jobs through the years, which included working as a waitress for Halfway Restaurant in Harrisonville and a nurse’s aide at Cass County Memorial Hospital.

Mary always had a big garden and was an excellent cook. She always had lovely flowers in her home. She always was very active in her children’s activities, helping with 4-H and Scouting. Mary had been a member of First Baptist Church in Harrisonville and later became an active member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Harrisonville for 20 years. She also was a member of the WMU, where she served as president during the 1960s and early 1970s. After she moved to Archie in 1976, she joined First Baptist Church of Archie. Mary was active in Senior Citizens and was on the Council of Aging in Harrisonville for many years.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Elton, one brother, Meredith Warriner, Jr., two sisters, Nora Traylor and Margaret Robey, and a grandson, Nathan Bledsoe.

She is survived by one son, Geroge David McVay and wife, Gayle, Warrensburg; four daughters, Marilyn Powell and husband, William, Bella Vista, Ark., Carolyn Bledsoe and her husband, Barry, Londonderry, Ohio, Sandra Peters and her husband, Fred, Sedalia, and Shirley McVay, Archie; one brother, George Warriner and his wife, Norma, Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Ruth Blunt and her husband, Bernard and Barbara Bell and her husband, Jack, all of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren, Mary Maddux, John Powell, Trenton Bledsoe, Kyle Bledsoe, Fred Peters and Chad Peters and nine great-grandchildren.

Richard A. Williams

April 5, 1940 - June 24, 2014

Richard A. “Dick” Williams, 74, of Pleasant Hill, was born in Columbia, the son of Charles Bolton and Allene Arie (Allen) Williams. He died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at his home.

Dick was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran.

Funeral services were June 28 at the funeral home. Reverend Wyatt Shanks officiated. Interment was in Staley Mound Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps and Pleasant Hill V.F.W. Post No. 3118 Honor Guard.

Lela “Mahala” Bohannon

July 18, 1931 - June 25, 2014

Lela “Mahala” Bohannon was born July 18, 1931, and died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, with her children by her side.

Mahala Lawrence married Francis J “Bo” Bohannon on Dec. 25, 1949, in her family’s home.

Mahala was a loving and supportive wife, mother and life-long prayer warrior for her family and anyone who needed unconditional love. She and Bo had businesses in Harrisonville; Bo’s Oil Company (Champlain 1970s) and later No Swet Fitness (1980s).

She is preceded in death by her husband Bo; her parents, Wilbur Lewis Lawrence and Ethel Marie Moore-Lawrence; her sisters Gladys Graham, Mary Anna Wilson, both of Harrisonville, and Ethel Marie Hodgson, of El Reno, Okla.; her brothers Harland Lawrence, of El Reno, Okla., Ray Lawrence, of Butler, and John Lawrence of King Fisher, Alaska.

She is survived by three children, Misti Gile (Kenny), Dennis Bohannon, Leanna Bohannon; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Rachael Gile-Pearman (Valerie), Lon Gile, BreAnn Bohannon and Maranda Bo Johnson, (greats) Kyleigh Brown, Makiah Clark and Reed Pearman.

Services will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please help her children acknowledge the wonderful/tender loving care she received from all the staff at Adrian Manor and Crossroads Hospice. She will be greatly missed.

David L. Francy

July 19, 1953 - June 25, 2014

David L. Francy, 60, was born in Harrisonville and died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City. He was the son of Frederick Dale Francy, Sr., and Mary Lou (Metcalf) Francy.

There was a Graveside Service and Interment for David on July 2 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Karen Lee Parker

Feb. 21, 1942 - June 25, 2014

Karen Lee Parker, 72, of Peculiar, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at her home. Graveside services were June 27 at Lewallen Cemetery in Branson under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Karen was born Feb. 21, 1942, in St. Anthony, Iowa. She married Ted Allen Parker on Aug. 7, 1993. Karen worked as a nurse’s aide for the Mental Health Hospital in Illinois for 23 years before retiring in 1984. She then moved to Peculiar and worked as the manager of the Peculiar Drive-In for 22 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, on Oct. 5, 2004, her mother, Dawn Brown, and stepfather, Willis “Tiny” Brown, and one brother, Kenny DeRuiter.

She is survived by one sister, Vi Cobern and her husband, Marv, Peculiar; two nephews, Matt Cobern and wife, Kelly, Peculiar, and Shannon Cobern and wife, Dee, Cleveland, and adopted grandson, James Dunn and wife, Gayle, and their child, Riley.

Raymond Junior Still, 83, of Adrian, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Adrian Manor. Funeral services were June 28 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian.

Raymond was born June 13, 1931 in Mercer County, the son of Dallas C. and Alpha (Wagner) Still. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Carl Mitchell Urton

June 24, 1943 - June 26, 2014

Carl Mitchell Urton, 71, of Rich Hill, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Funeral services were July 1 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice.

Carl was born June 24, 1943, in Peculiar, the son of Carl J. and Callie Lulu (Hoenschell) Urton. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He had worked for the GSA for 35 years before retiring. Carl loved to farm and quail hunt. He was a quiet man with a gift of storytelling. He loved history, enjoyed traveling, and had been many places all over the United States. He especially enjoyed traveling with his grandchildren. Carl was baptized before his death.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Kathryn Whited.

He is survived by one son, Troy Urton, and his wife, Deanne, Amsterdam; one daughter, Tammy Thieme, and her husband, Mike, Harrisonville; two sisters, Violet Evans, Independence, and Dorothy Loyd, Peculiar, and five grandchildren, Megan Roach, Erika Roach, Amy Roach, Clayton Urton and Cauy Urton.

Norma Woodola Heryford, 83, of Pleasant Hill, was born in Skiatook, Okla., the daughter of John Thomas and Georgia Ett (Sullivan) Elliott. She died Friday, June 27, 2014, at her home in Pleasant Hill.

Funeral services were July 1 at the funeral home. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
