William Thomas “Junior” Gilbert

June 8, 1926 - July 12, 2014

William T. “Junior” Gilbert, 88, a long-time resident of West Line, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, comforted by his beloved family. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. July 16 at West Line Christian Church, West Line. The family received friends 6-8 p.m. July 15 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial was in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

Junior was born June 8, 1926, in Kansas, a son of William Thomas and Oma Mae (Stainbrook) Gilbert. After attending Freeman High School, Junior worked as a carpenter and later joined Local 777 of the Carpenters Union. Junior joined West Line Christian Church on March 9, 1947. He was united in marriage to Ruth Irene Moul on April 20, 1947.

Junior was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Ruth, who died Dec. 2, 1990, and his parents William T. Gilbert and Oma M. Peyton.

He is survived by five daughters, Ruth Ann Dane (Ron), Cleveland, Susan Sidwell (Bill), Freeman, Becky Bigham, Louisburg, Kan., Nora Evins (Jim), Belton, and Tracy Gilbert; grandchildren, Andrea Laughlin (Tony), Gregg Gilbert (Jocelyn), Kendra McClellan (Mark), Amy Scott, Clay Sidwell (Mindy), Alicia Huff (Greg), Anthony Evins, Andrew Evins (Jesse), Megan Bairrington (Billy), and 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marion Gilbert, Bates City, and a brother-in-law, Oliver Craycraft, Peculiar, as well as several nieces and nephews.
