Kenneth Ray Johnson, 73, of Harrisonville, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at his home after a six-month struggle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Aug. 7 at Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF).
Kenneth was born June 20, 1941, near Dustin, Okla., the son of Walter Everett and Minnie Beatrice (Branum) Johnson. He married Maggie Basquez on Oct. 1, 1958, in Wetumka, Okla. They moved from Oklahoma to Harrisonville in 1962, where he operated several successful businesses, most notably K and J Furniture Store, which he owned for 29 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran where he served two tours aboard ship to the Western Pacific over a period of four years.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clifford Johnson and Afton Johnson, and one sister, Joyce Triece, all of Holdenville, Okla.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maggie, of the home; one son, Kenneth Randall Johnson, Kansas City, Kan.; one daughter, Renea McCann, Belton; three brothers, J. D. Johnson, Harrisonville, Lester Johnson, Kimberling City, and Ronnie Johnson, Holdenville, Okla.; five grandchildren, Sheena Marie Gordon, Kenneth Richard Johnson, Kody Randall Johnson, Travis Joseph McCann and Heather Christine Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson Pierce, Lilianna Johnson and Greenley Gordon.
Those who were fortunate enough to be the family and friends of Kenneth Johnson will carry the lessons he taught for all of our lives.
