Peggy Jean Day Tallman, 79, of Harrisonville, died peacefully at KU Medical Center Monday, Aug. 4, 2014.

She is survived by her partner Gene Hon, daughter Terry (Jim) Thoelke, son Russ (Tiffany) Simmons, granddaughters Tressa Lee, Jamie (John) Hay, and January Thoelke, grandson Trevor Thoelke, Gene’s sons Mark, Mike, and Bruce Hon, sister Goldie Cunningham, sister Joy (Joe) Crook, brother Harold Dean Day, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marie and Anna Maye, and brothers Bobbie, Aubrey, and Charlie.

Peggy was born March 30, 1935, to Melvin and Edna (Lancaster) Day in Austin. She was a gifted basketball player and sang in the choir at Archie High School. She married William Price Simmons Jr. in 1953 and lived in Bonner Springs, Kan., for many years. She has been a resident of Harrisonville for the last 17 years. Peggy was a talented artist, designer, decorator and doting grandmother who loved attending her grandchildrens’ activities, as well as playing dominoes and cards with her friends and family. She will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Austin Baptist Church, 33700 S. Bates St., Austin, MO 64725. Peggy’s ashes will be interred at Austin Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Austin Cemetery Fund or the American Heart Association.
