Summit Christian’s Ginther named Class 1 offensive player of the year

Kassi Ginther of Summit Christian Academy was selected Class 1 girls offensive player of the year last week by the Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Ginther, a senior forward, scored 123 goals for the 24-4 Eagles and set a national career scoring record with 319. She scored four goals in leading the Eagles to a second-place finish in the Class 1 state tournament.

Ginther was named to the Class 1 first team along with SCA teammates Savanna Sallas, a junior defender, and Riley Painter, a freshman midfielder. SCA’s Abby Nelson, a junior defender, was selected to the second team along with senior forward Faith Fields.

SCA’s Lilley Berry, a sophomore midfielder, was named honorable mention.

SCA finished second in the final Class 1 state rankings.

Harrisonville had two players selected to the Class 3 team. Senior forward Eleanor Dick was named to the second team and senior midfielder Payton Sandy was an honorable mention pick. Hailey West, a sophomore forward from Belton, was also named to the second team.

Pleasant Hill had two players make the Class 2 first team: junior midfielder Autumn Ferguson and sophomore forward Mackenzie Dimarco. Freshman midfielder Jacey Faust was named to the second team and freshman midfielder Kyleigh Roe was selected honorable mention.

Alexis Mitchell of Lee’s Summit North was selected girls Class 4 Player of the Year. Mitchell, a senior midfielder, scored a team-high 16 goals and 14 assists in leading North to a 22-4 record, the Suburban Gold Conference championship and a second-place finish in the Class 4 state tournament. She finished her Bronco career with 46 goals and 39 assists and has signed to play soccer at South Dakota.

North junior Sarah Peters was named the Class 4 Goalkeeper of the Year. Peters finished the year with 12 shutouts and 166 saves.

Mitchell and Peters were both first-team selections along with Kassidy Newsom of Lee’s Summit West. A junior midfielder, Newsom had 14 goals and six assists for the Titans, who finished 16-6-1 and tied for third in the Class 4 state tournament.

Selected to the second team were Keelie Fothergill, a senior midfielder from North; Jillian Leetch, a senior midfielder from West, and two players from Lee’s Summit: junior forward Izzy Shackelford and junior midfielder Maddie Souder.

North finished second and West was tied for third in the final Class 4 team rankings.
